Engagement

Keeping students engaged is hard. Very hard when they are not interested in the subject. But by frequent questioning and asking students questions it seems that they become more engaged. Infact instead of being mad that they have to answer a question they seem happy that they get to be involved. Questions, questions, questions.

  1. I've noticed you have a lot of creative ideas and are really funny. I think the students respond to that too. I agree that keeping the classroom atmosphere one that they all feel involved in keeps them more engaged. I'm still working on that balance of ensuring we get through the materials my cooperative teacher needs me to get through so my classes stay somewhat on track with his classes and allowing the kids to talk about what we are learning. I've noticed that if I'm having fun with what we are learning and keep them on track, they do tend to stay engaged. I do have one student in one of my classes who always likes to answer the questions and the other students just sit there and let him (on some days anyway). I think when that happens, I'm going to start doing think-pair-share or maybe even whiteboards if I get them.
